What to do when there's no HR

Many small private practices don't have HR—just a dentist-owner and maybe an office manager. In that case, email the dentist directly and CC the office manager if there is one. Should you tell them where you're going?

For dental hygienists, this depends on proximity and competition. If you're moving to a practice across town that shares the same patient zip codes, expect tension.
