Job Summary
Supervise participants during afterschool program hours, transitions, and special events while maintaining a safe, inclusive environment. Implement academic, enrichment, SEL, and recreation activities, prepare materials, and assist with homework, setup, and cleanup. Build positive relationships with youth, support their social-emotional growth, and encourage participation in family events, showcases, and field trips. Document attendance, report incidents, and maintain participant confidentiality in compliance with agency and DYCD policies. Work Monday through Friday from approximately 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and extended hours. Requires occasional travel between program sites and schools.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent OR at least one (1) year of experience working with children under 13 years of age
- Staff must be at least 18 years old to supervise participants independently
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with youth and work collaboratively with staff
- Successfully complete all required background clearances and agency onboarding requirements
- Dependable, punctual, and follows through on assigned responsibilities
- Adapts to changing program needs and responds positively to feedback
- Represents the agency professionally while following all safety protocols and policies
- Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and use a computer and other office equipment for extended periods throughout the workday
- Must be able to lift and carry materials, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
- Requires flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and extended hours
- Travel between program sites, schools, agency locations, and community events may be required
- Temporary reassignment to alternate program sites, including summer program locations, may also be required
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in an afterschool, school, camp, recreation, or youth development setting
- Experience supporting elementary and/or middle school-aged youth
- Bilingual skills are welcome
