Youth Wellness Specialist

Job Summary
Plan and lead wellness-driven curriculum and activities for youth ages 6 to 15, including rotating quarterly sessions on gardening, cooking, and yoga. Collaborate with internal staff and external partners to design hands-on programs promoting healthy lifestyles, while assisting with arts, athletics, and afterschool enrichment. Lead chaperone duties for Spring Break, Summer Camps, and DCPS Fun Days, and engage volunteers in wellness initiatives. Support families by connecting them with resources and maintain an enriched classroom environment focused on safety and inclusivity. Perform data entry and assist with meal service, requiring a ServSafe license. Work flexible evenings for school events in a diverse, respectful setting.
Required Qualifications
- Experience planning and leading activities for youth
- Classroom Management
- Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances
- Will be required to obtain a ServSafe license to assist with serving afterschool and camp meals
- Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings for school events
- Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations
- LAYC/MMYC requires the COVID-19 vaccine of all its employees
- This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs
- May require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with cooking/nutrition education preferred
- Experience with urban gardening is a plus but not required
- Experience with wellness themed activities such as gardening, cooking, yoga, etc
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment
- Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations
