Job Summary
Youth Support Specialist providing individual and group peer support to youth and young adults (ages 14–26) with serious emotional disturbances or mental illness, including those with substance use issues. Responsibilities include education/outreach, advocacy for community supports, assisting clients in understanding their experiences through shared lived experience, maintaining confidentiality, completing reports, attending required trainings, and adhering to applicable laws and agency policies. Requires a valid Maine driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance; flexible hours including weekends/evenings/holidays; working within 30 miles of home; mileage reimbursement and a comprehensive benefits package. Must have lived experience with mental health challenges, be willing to share this experience therapeutically, and obtain Maine Peer Connect Youth Peer Support Certification within 9 months of hire.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Maine Peer Connect Youth Peer Support Certification within 9 months of hire
- Must have lived experience in mental health related challenges and be willing to openly discuss and share this information with others in a therapeutic way
- Proof of vehicle insurance at $50K/$100K and a valid Maine driver's license
- Must be between the ages of 18-26 years old who is receiving or has received services related to mental illness, in recovery, and willing to self-identify
