Job Summary
Supervise, organize, and implement high-quality sports programs at a specific site while ensuring participant development occurs in a safe, healthy environment. Set up and take down equipment, maintain supplies, and direct instructors and volunteers to proper court or field. Instruct classes and referee as needed, substitute for staff when required, and monitor daily operations to adhere to YMCA health and safety regulations. Compile program statistics, evaluate lesson plans, and respond to member inquiries or complaints in a timely manner. Maintain effective relationships with participants and parents while acting as a positive role model. Complete incident forms for emergency situations and attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
Required Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Completed high school or its equivalent
- Two years of previous instructional sports experience
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Ability to exercise mature judgement and sound decision making including reacting calmly and quickly in an emergency
- Ability to demonstrate and verbally articulate, with volume, instructions for variety of sports to the appropriate age group
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Energetic, motivating, and enjoy working with children
- Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to work and navigate programming indoors and outdoors
- Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children
- Must see and hear well enough to keep children safe
- Must be able to engage in physical activity with children
