Job Summary
Supervise at-risk youth at HOME Youth Services shelters by providing direct oversight, mentoring, and assistance with basic needs while ensuring a safe environment. Act as the primary point of contact for work shifts, responding to resident questions about resources, facilities, and local services. Provide direct supervision including teaching independent living skills, mediating conversations, and facilitating communication between staff and volunteers. Manage client transportation to schools and appointments, assess eligibility for shelter placement, and ensure data collection accuracy in the Health Management Information System. Perform site upkeep, laundry, meal preparation, and routine safety checks while maintaining clear boundaries and de-escalating conflicts. Work nights, weekends, and holidays in close quarters with residents experiencing chronic homelessness, requiring frequent driving and physical activity.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Four or more years of work or volunteering experience in fast-paced customer service, healthcare, education, social or community services or related public-facing sectors
- Driver license
- Insured vehicle available for use on the job
- Satisfactory drive record for the previous three years
- Pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening
- Pass an Oregon Department of Human Services criminal background check
- Pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings
- CPR/First Aid training or certification
- Food Handlers card
- Mandatory Reporting training or certification
- Privacy Laws training or certification
- Trauma Informed Care training or certification
- Suicide Intervention training or certification
- Behavior Management Interventions training or certification
- Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect training or certification
- Consistent punctuality
- Reliable attendance
- Ability to work effectively and maintain positive, professional relationships with team members and clients
- Ability to lift and/or move 20 pounds
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Manual dexterity for handling personal items, food, cleaning equipment and supplies, clothing, sacks, carts, office equipment and use of computers and written in-take processing
- Ability to reach and/or extend to access materials or equipment

- Ability to ascend and descend stairs safely and repeatedly
- Ability to navigate multiple floors without the use of an elevator when necessary
- Ability to proceed independently in accordance with Agency and program policies, guidelines, and initiatives
- Ability to de-escalate others and respond calmly, and lead others in a crisis
- Ability to regulate emotions during interactions with escalated clients and staff
- Ability to regulate emotions and handle pressures of frequent demands for attention, time and work tasks
- Ability to tolerate escalated, and occasionally destructive behavior from clients
- Ability to maintain calm disposition when clients or others may become escalated, applying crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques for all participants
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Desired Qualifications
- College course work in social sciences or related human services
- Work or volunteer experience working with special needs population
- Experience working with youth or high-risk youth
- Experience with youth mentoring and service delivery
- General understanding of de-escalation, role-modeling and active-listening
- Ability to build and maintain healthy boundaries and relationships with clients and community partners
- Demonstrated proficiencies in Microsoft Office (including Outlook), videoconferencing platforms, and web tools
- Exhibits a positive attitude and engages with others in a cooperative and supportive manner
- Demonstrates tact, diplomacy and empathy when communicating formally and informally with clients, staff and program partners
