Job Summary
Conduct high-level reference service, readers' advisory, and training for staff and customers on library and community resources. Develop, implement, and promote teen and children's programs aligned with the Young Minds Strategy for kindergarten readiness, early literacy, and high school graduation. Manage the juvenile collection, lead visual merchandizing activities, and evaluate materials based on community needs. Build relationships with schools and organizations to promote community outreach and early literacy skills for youth of all ages. Supervise volunteers and practicum students, and assume operational responsibility for the location in the manager's absence. Present at local, state, and national conferences as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Master's of Library and Information Science Degree from ALA accredited institution of higher learning
- 1-3 years' working with youth
- Ability to use appropriate judgment in handling information and records
- Ability to work independently with limited direction
- Acts with the customer in mind using information gained from interacting with the customers
- Ability to effectively present in a variety of formal settings - one on one, group, peers, direct reports, etc
- Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e., Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems
- Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations, per job requirements
- Ability to lift or push up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to lift or push up to 20 lbs frequently
