Job Summary
Create and maintain a supportive environment for youth using the lab's computers, resources, and technology. Prepare the Maker Space by handling setup, cleanup, and equipment inventory while staffing the area to engage students, recruit for workshops, and act as a mentor. Operate and inventory site-specific equipment including desktops, printers, cameras, 3D printers, and vinyl cutters. Instruct or assist in technology-related classes covering digital media, the maker movement, and STEAM subjects. Provide participants with opportunities to showcase their work locally and refer those showing passion for STEAM to special program opportunities. Assure youth understand career paths in STEAM-related fields. Work 1:30p to 6:30p Monday through Friday at the Calumet Heights Center.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a relevant field
- Three years of experience
- Job experience and/or coursework in computer technology, digital media or multimedia, a S.T.E.A.M. discipline, hardware or software applications and troubleshooting, Internet research, teaching or training
- Proven knowledge of, and ability to use the technology associated with the Maker Space program
- Skills with technology, art, craft, engineering, music, science, green design, and other Maker themes
- Curiosity and commitment to quickly develop such skills
- Knowledge in maintaining digital fabrication equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, etc.
- Experience teaching in an educational or youth development setting
- Experience teaching in an educational or youth development setting specifically through project based learning
