Job Summary

Build and foster relationships with youth, families, and treatment team members to advocate for community support needs. Actively engage in treatment planning while teaching self-advocacy, problem-solving strategies, and independent living skills. Empower adolescents to build understanding of their unique mental health needs through lived experience as a peer support specialist. This occasional part-time role requires 15 hours per week at $19.64 hourly. Candidates must have lived experience with mental health services as a youth, hold a high school diploma, and be between ages 18 and 28. Certification as a Youth Peer Support Specialist is required within one year of hiring.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Lived experience with mental health services as a youth
  • Willingness and ability to self-identify as a person who received mental health services as a youth
  • Preparedness to use that experience in helping others
  • Ability to achieve MDHHS certification as a Youth Peer Support Specialist within one year of hiring
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing required training
  • Age between 18 and 28

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience receiving services as a youth in complex, child serving systems (behavioral health, child welfare, juvenile justice, special education, etc.)
  • Bi-lingualism
