Job Summary
The Youth Peer Advocate acts as a liaison between RTF youth and the Enhanced Treatment Team, providing peer support through group and individualized sessions. Responsibilities include assisting with family safety plans, supporting youth acclimation to group living, maintaining confidentiality, participating in team meetings, and using lived experience to promote resiliency and recovery. The position requires good communication skills and a recovery-oriented mindset, with candidates needing a high school diploma and relevant peer advocacy credentials.
Required Qualifications
- Age 18-28
- First-hand experience with mental health services, special education services, or foster care
- High school diploma, high school equivalency, or NYS State Education Commencement Credential (e.g. SACC or CDOS)
- New York State Youth Peer Advocate Credential (YPA)
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- In the recovery phase of their own treatment
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to reflect thoughtfully about diagnosis, experiences, and personal history
- Basic knowledge of support techniques, advocacy, active listening methods, and group facilitation or willingness to attend related training
