Job Summary
Conduct safe transportation of elementary students and staff between schools, the YMCA, and program destinations while enforcing vehicle safety checks and proper loading/unloading procedures. Provide active supervision of participants, facilitate STEAM and recreational activities, and assist with homework to support academic and social-emotional development. Maintain participant accountability, enforce positive behavior guidance strategies, and ensure clean, organized program spaces and vehicles. Build professional relationships with school personnel and families while adhering to Child Abuse Prevention policies and reporting any concerns immediately. Complete required trainings including defensive driving and CPR/AED certification. This seasonal role operates Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 6:00 pm, ending at the conclusion of the 2026-2027 school year, and requires a valid California Class C Driver License with a clean driving record.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must successfully pass a California Department of Justice (DOJ) Live Scan fingerprint background check
- Valid California Class C Driver License
- Clean DMV driving record that meets YMCA insurance eligibility requirements
- Successful completion of a YMCA driver orientation and behind-the-wheel evaluation
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification including Adult and Child/Infant
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification obtained within 30 days of hire
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification from American Red Cross
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification from American Heart Association
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification from American Safety & Health Institute
Desired Qualifications
- Coursework in education, child development, recreation, or a related field
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a before or after school or day camp setting
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: mentoring, arts & crafts, homework assistance, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
- Experience driving passenger vans or small buses
