Job Summary
Facilitate fun, engaging STEM activities, investigations, and demonstrations for Girls in STEM and Girl Scout programs by preparing, presenting, and monitoring daily sessions. Create a safe, enjoyable experience for children grades 1–12 through hands-on experiments and inquiry-based learning while supervising behavior and managing classroom setup and cleanup. Research and write new inquiry-based activities, pack and sort supplies, and communicate with co-workers, parents, and partners. Work nights and mandatory weekends with a food handler's card. Support the Arizona Science Center's educational leadership goals by advancing student engagement and quality teaching.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of K – 12 educational systems
- Knowledge of Arizona College and Career Ready Standards
- Knowledge of technology applications and integration in K - 12
- Knowledge of youth development concepts and strategies
- Skill in planning and coordinating activities
- Skill in effective verbal and written communication and reporting
- Skill in Problem-solving and decision making
- Ability to work nights
- Ability to work mandatory weekend hours
- Acquisition of a food handler's card and fingerprint card
- High School Diploma, GED or STEM field experience
- Minimum of two years teaching STEM subjects in a formal or informal environment
- Camp counselor experience
- Experience with family programming
- Experience with student-directed, inquiry-based, experiential learning approaches
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Desired Qualifications
- STEM field experience preferred
- Minimum of two years teaching STEM subjects in a formal or informal environment preferred but not required
