Job Summary

Youth Advocacy Coordinator oversees the successful implementation of the Shelby County Youth Council (SCYC) in alignment with Youth Action Center (YAC) youth-and-adult partnership best practices. Responsibilities include recruiting, facilitating, and supervising approximately 30 SCYC high school students one evening per week from September through May; planning and coordinating logistics for events such as the Shelby County Youth Summit; coordinating resources and opportunities for students; planning, delegating, and supervising tasks for university and student interns; maintaining participant engagement through regular check-ins; building relationships across local government to advocate for SCYC; attending county commissioner meetings; reporting to the Shelby County Commission; tracking attendance and training records; completing student assessments; supporting BRIDGES programming; representing BRIDGES at events; and participating in fundraising efforts. Requires an associate degree and 3+ years in related experience, plus strong planning, coordination, facilitation, and communication skills; proficient in MS Office and Google Suites. Work hours typically 10:00 am - 6:00 pm (Wednesdays 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm) with some evenings/weekends; based at BRIDGES Center with other approved locations; travel as needed; inclusive, diverse workplace.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree and three years of directly related experience; in lieu of an associate degree, candidate must have five years or more of directly related experience
  • Three or more years of experience planning, coordinating, facilitating, and monitoring a youth development program
  • Three years of project or event management experience
  • Proficient verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Good knowledge of experiential education, adventure-based education, or adolescent development
  • Must be proficient using MS Office and Google Suites applications
