Job Summary
Direct children aged 4-12 in an after-school setting, implementing curriculum and designing daily lesson and activity plans. Supervise the classroom and all activities while making systematic observations and evaluations of each child. Conduct family conferences, maintain positive relationships with families, and engage them as volunteers. Maintain program site and equipment, keep records, and complete required documentation regarding attendance and health. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and family nights while following all safety procedures and YMCA policies. Provide direct leadership to assigned groups, assist children in completing land and water-based tasks, and build enthusiasm for programs. Work Monday through Friday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm as a part-time position averaging less than 30 hours per week.
Required Qualifications
- Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law
- School Age Child Care Clearance per NYS regulations
- At least 18 years of age
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications
- New Employee Orientation and Child Abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire date
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities
- Vision, hearing, speech and movement abilities in order to provide safe supervision of children at all times
- Must be available to work until the end of June in accordance with the York Elementary School District Calendar
Desired Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting
- Previous experience with diverse populations
