Job Summary
Lead safe, structured yoga sessions for a group of inpatient psychiatric patients, adapting movement, breathing, and meditation practices for varying diagnoses and acuity levels. Monitor patient engagement, behavior, and safety during sessions, responding appropriately to distress or escalation while collaborating with clinical staff. Maintain appropriate boundaries and uphold patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA. This role supports emotional regulation, stress reduction, and mind-body awareness as part of a multidisciplinary treatment approach within a recovery-oriented care environment. Sessions are tailored to diverse populations, including individuals in acute psychiatric distress, requiring the ability to remain calm and grounded.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Yoga Instructor
- Ability to work with diverse populations, including individuals in acute psychiatric distress
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to remain calm, grounded, and responsive
- Basic understanding of mental health conditions and de-escalation techniques
- Ability to demonstrate and guide basic movements
- Ability to modify or provide chair yoga practices
- Standing, bending, and light lifting (e.g., mats, props)
- Must adhere to safety and security policies (e.g., restricted items, patient supervision)
- Ability to work weekends
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in hospitals, behavioral health units, or residential treatment settings
- Additional certifications (e.g., trauma-informed yoga, mindfulness-based stress reduction, adaptive yoga)
- Familiarity with safety protocols in locked or secure units
