Job Summary

Conduct daily practice sessions teaching competitive swimming stroke skills and supervise team members in preparation for competition. Evaluate each swimmer's technique and provide continuous corrective feedback while ensuring adequate safety procedures are in place for all practices. Attend team meetings, trainings, parent meetings, and competitions to support the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington aquatic program's goals for youth development and social responsibility. Maintain physical readiness for lifeguarding duties, including lifting objects over 40 pounds and standing on the pool deck for up to four hours. Complete required certifications within the first year of employment.

Required Qualifications

  • 17 years of age
  • Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Must be able to lift and move around objects of 40 pounds or more
  • Must be able to stand or sit on the pool deck for up to 4 hours
  • Must be able to actively teach the YMCA competitive swim program in the water
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with both children and adults
  • Ability to see and hear participants in distress or asking for assistance
  • Obtain YMCA Swim Coach Certification within three (3) months of hire
  • Will be required to complete the YMCA Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving within first year of employment
  • Obtain ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) level 1 certification- The Foundations of Coaching within first year of employment
