Job Summary
Supervise day camp staff and ensure daily schedules, lesson plans, and safety procedures are followed for all camper groups. Assist the Camp Director with program implementation, conduct weekly team meetings, and provide daily performance feedback to counselors. Monitor staff-to-child ratios, manage hourly head counts, and address any issues with staff or campers while maintaining strict adherence to YMCA policies and aquatics procedures. Ensure all counselors have necessary supplies, complete required training documentation, and deliver outstanding customer service to children and parents.
Required Qualifications
- Be able to work from the week before camp begins for training to the end of the final week of the season
- High school graduate
- 21 years of age
- Willing to participate in and obtain CPR and First Aid Certification
- Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting
- Meet the county/state licensing requirements
- At least two summers of experience in day camp, recreation, physical education, teaching, or working with school age children
- Prior experience assisting supervising staff
- Work well with and in groups
- Able to effectively communicate with children and parents
- Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
- Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children
- Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds
- Must have visual acuity to observe all children
- Must understand and be committed to working with diverse population and to YMCA character development
