Job Summary
Provide excellent member services by listening and communicating effectively with members, staff, parents, and the general public while maintaining confidentiality regarding personal information. Perform daily tasks including alphabetizing, reading, writing, data entry, and utilizing standard word processing and YMCA software programs. Administer First Aid effectively and observe safety and security procedures, including responding to emergencies. Prioritize work under time constraints despite noise and activity, while following instructions and occasionally leading or directing activities. Maintain positive relationships with the team and demonstrate adaptability in fast-paced environments subject to heat, cold, water, dirt, and dust.
Required Qualifications
- At least 16 years of age
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to sit, walk, kneel, balance, reach, push and pull
- Ability to climb stairs (depending on the facility)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to use close and distant vision
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, parents, program participants, the general public and overall work effectively on a team
- Ability to work as a team member and possess the core values that meet the YMCA mission
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal information on children, family and YMCA staff
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those fast-paced and subject to noise
- Ability to concentrate and work under time constraints, even when distracted by noise and activity
- Occasional exposure to heat, cold, water, dirt and dust
- Ability to listen and communicate (verbally) with members and staff effectively
- Ability to alphabetize, read and write
- Ability to prioritize, analyze, reason, solve problems, make sound judgment, draw conclusions, make decisions and occasional negotiate
- Ability to follow instructions, give directions/train others and occasionally lead/direct activities
- Must display attention to detail, resourcefulness, and adaptability
- Ability to observe and promote safety and security procedures
- Ability to physically and mentally respond to emergencies and administer First Aid effectively
- Basic member service skills and telephone etiquette
- Data entry skills and basic computer proficiency using standard word processing
- Ability to learn and use YMCA software programs
- Math and calculator proficiency
- Knowledge of filing and basic office procedures and the ability to use the copier and fax machine
- Obtain and maintain required training (refer to YMCA Training Plan) and demonstrate YMCA Leadership Competencies for the Member Services Representative I position
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
