Job Summary
Join the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington as a Camp Director or Camp Counselor for the summer season from June to August. As a Camp Director, you will ensure a fun and safe camp experience, lead and mentor counselors, and implement camp programs. For the Camp Counselor role, you will lead activities for campers, promote positive relationships, and engage in playful interactions with the children. Both positions require certification in CPR and First Aid, completion of background checks, and a commitment to creating an inclusive environment. The Camp Director position requires at least three summers of relevant experience, while the Camp Counselor role necessitates prior experience with supervising children.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate
- 21 years of age for Camp Director, 18 years of age for Camp Counselor
- Willing to participate in and obtain CPR and First Aid Certification
- Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting
- Meet the county/state licensing requirements
- At least three summers of experience in day camp, recreation, physical education, teaching, or working with school age children for Camp Director
- Prior experience supervising staff for Camp Director
- Prior experience in supervision of children or one season’s experience as a junior counselor or have completed the CIT program for Camp Counselor
Desired Qualifications
- Y Day Camp Director certification/preferred
- Skilled in teaching a variety of crafts, songs, stories, games, sports, aquatics and related camp activities
