Job Summary
Lead and develop aquatics staff through recruitment, onboarding, and training while fostering a culture grounded in safety, accountability, and inclusion. Oversee daily operations including staff scheduling, program execution, and facility readiness by monitoring pool conditions and addressing maintenance needs promptly. Champion safety standards by leading certifications, in-service trainings, and proactive risk management to ensure the highest standards for members and participants. Review logs, reports, and payroll for accuracy and compliance while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiency. This role supports the YMCA of Alexandria's mission to advance youth development and healthy living across the community.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 3+ years of aquatics, recreation, or related leadership experience
- Current Lifeguard certification
- CPR/AED (Professional Rescuer) certification
- First Aid certification
- Strong understanding of aquatics operations
- Strong understanding of facility management
- Strong understanding of safety standards
- Strong understanding of program delivery
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds
- Ability to climb
- Ability to use a variety of aquatic and cleaning equipment
- Ability to swim 500 yards
- Ability to tread water for two minutes (legs only)
- Ability to retrieve training victim from bottom deep end
- Ability to complete active and passive victim rescue with tube
- Ability to backboard victim
- Ability to see and hear participants in distress or asking for assistance
