Job Summary
Yiddish Transcriber for DOJ Linguistic Support Services. Responsibilities include translating, transcribing, and interpreting a wide range of materials (documents, audio/video content, emails, manuscripts) with legal, government, medical, financial, and technical terminology; maintaining confidentiality; and employing CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio) to ensure accurate, register-faithful renderings in English and Yiddish. Must have 3+ years language transcription experience, ILR 3+ proficiency, U.S. residency within the last 5 years, at least 1 year in law enforcement/legal contexts, U.S. citizenship, and a active Public Trust or higher clearance. Remote work available with potential travel; NC regional/CONUS locations supported.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in language transcription
- Qualifying ILR 3 minimum or equivalent in listening, comprehension, and writing on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Knowledge of English and foreign language vocabularies in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes of communication
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in both English and the foreign language related to government missions
- Fluent in English and foreign language with regionalisms and slang
- Translate accurately without changes, omissions or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Abide by linguist ethics
- Proficient in using CAT tools, SDL Trados Studio
- Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
