Job Summary
Yiddish Interpreter to support the Department of Justice Linguistic Support Services. Responsibilities include interpreting, translating, transcription of diverse materials (documents, audio/video), and court/deposition interpretation. Must deliver interpretation within 3 hours of government request, possess specialized training or extensive legal-language experience, have ILR 3 minimum, and be a U.S. citizen. Must be fluent in English and Yiddish with knowledge of formal, legal, diplomatic, and casual vocabularies, and able to use CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio). Confidentiality is required due to sensitive materials. Remote work available along with National Capital Region and CONUS locations; some travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Specialized training in interpreting or extensive experience in court/legal environments in required language
- Minimum of four (4) years of language interpretation experience in the required mode
- Qualifying ILR 3 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- US citizenship
- Ability to provide interpretation within 3 hours of request
- Proficiency in English and foreign language vocabularies in formal, legal, diplomatic, and casual contexts
- Know specialized vocabulary in both English and foreign language related to Government’s varied roles and missions
- Fluency in English and foreign language including regionalisms and colloquial slang
- Ability to interpret accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source language materials
- Ethics in linguistics and confidentiality measures
- Proficient in CAT tools, SDL Trados Studio
- Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / NCR / CONUS with travel as needed
