Yellow Iron Field Mechanic

Job Summary
Diagnose and repair engine, hydraulic, electrical, cooling, fuel, and drive train systems on yellow iron equipment. Service and rebuild components including hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, final drives, and swing bearings while performing scheduled preventative maintenance. Troubleshoot fault codes using CAT ET software and perform welding and fabrication as needed. Respond to breakdowns at active jobsites, safely perform field diagnostics, and communicate equipment status to minimize downtime. Complete accurate service reports, track parts usage, and relay safety concerns while adhering to lockout/tagout protocols and 360° walkaround inspections.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years heavy equipment/yellow iron mechanic experience
- Strong understanding of Caterpillar, Komatsu, or John Deere equipment
- Proficient with hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting
- Ability to read equipment schematics and parts diagrams
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
- Ability to work in outdoor jobsite conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with yellow iron mechanic role (preferred)
- Welding and fabrication experience
- CDL
