Job Summary
The Special Needs Counselor I supervises and implements activities for children with special needs in accordance with state and agency guidelines. Responsibilities include tracking children's progress, distributing snacks, conducting health checks, documenting behavior issues, maintaining safety, and ensuring proper staff-to-child ratios. Candidates are required to have a high school diploma or GED, at least two years of relevant experience, and effective communication skills. Certifications in CPR and First Aid are required upon hiring.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum two years’ experience with children, including one year with special needs
- Ability to relate to children
- Must be at least eighteen years old
- Clear communication skills, oral and written
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with children with special needs
- Competency in planning and implementing activities
- Current CPR and First Aid certificates
Additional Requirements
- Must successfully complete a Level II fingerprinting background screening
- Must pass a drug test, Medical Marijuana cards do not exempt from drug test
