Job Summary
Yard Master responsible for managing and coordinating rail yard activities, ensuring efficient train operations and safety. Use yard management software to document railcars entering/exiting/loading/unloading, create switch lists based on daily needs, proactively anticipate logistics difficulties, monitor yard activities via video, respond to requests from Customer/Logistics/Operations Managers, and provide data/reports to aid logistics. Maintain communications with Union Pacific and perform recordkeeping for switch lists and shift-change handoffs. Requires strong communication skills, ability to handle overlapping deadlines with Savage, the Class-1 Railroad, and the Customer’s logistics team, and the ability to work a 12-hour night-time schedule with 2-on/2-off and 3-on/2-off rotations. Emphasizes professionalism, customer service, problem anticipation, multitasking, and attention to detail in a safety-conscious, team-oriented environment.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ Years’ experience in a rail-centric facility required
- High school graduate or GED equivalent required
- Experience in logistics-sensitive administrative or supervisory tasks preferred
- Background using SAP or equivalent Customer inventory systems preferred
