Job Summary
The Yard Jockey moves trailers within the yard to support loading/unloading and yard operations. Responsibilities include operating yard tractors to move trailers to dock doors and yard locations, inspecting trailers for roadworthiness (seals, lights, brakes), coordinating movements with warehouse staff, dispatchers, and gate personnel, maintaining accurate records of trailer locations in YMS or logs, ensuring safe, timely, and efficient movements, assisting with securing loads and wheel chocking, following company safety policies and DOT regulations, performing routine yard inspections, and notifying maintenance staff of issues. Requires valid driver's license (CDL-A preferred), the ability to operate heavy equipment in tight spaces, strong communication and organizational skills, knowledge of DOT/OSHA safety regulations, and flexibility to work varied shifts in outdoor conditions; may operate forklifts or other equipment per certifications.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum [X] years of experience operating yard tractors or similar equipment
- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment in tight spaces
- Knowledge of DOT and OSHA safety regulations
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Physical requirements including lifting up to 50 lbs
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
Desired Qualifications
