Yard Helper/Swamper

Job Summary
Operate forklifts and shunt trucks to move materials within the yard, unload and load trailers to stage customer orders for shipment, and receive, stage, and organize reinforcing steel bars to support production and shipping. Maintain yard cleanliness by picking up and disposing of dunnage and other materials, ensure accurate and timely processing of shipping and receiving documentation, and communicate with shipping and receiving departments to coordinate orders and resolve discrepancies. Perform general yard operations including organizing materials and preparing shipments as required by the Supervisor. Overtime hours may be required, and the role involves working any shift outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience operating forklifts and shunt trucks in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial yard environment
- Strong understanding of yard organization and material handling best practices
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with team members and other departments
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain a safe and work environment
- Must be able to work any shift
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Must be familiar with, and adhere to, shop safety policies and procedures
- Frequent heavy lifting is required
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in the steel industry is considered an asset
- Forklift certification is considered an asset
