Job Summary
Drive gasoline or diesel powered yard tractors to move trailers and containers on company premises, utilizing RF commands to place dispatched items in the queue. Inspect equipment and supplies before and after trips, submitting condition reports, then assist warehouse workers with loading and unloading. Follow yard controller instructions to maximize equipment turn times while observing and directing outside drivers to appropriate locations. Practice safe driving, maintain yard housekeeping, and chock wheels after placement at dock doors. Ensure doors are at least half rolled down before pulling trailers from doors. Maintain regular, punctual attendance and comply with safety policies in a warehouse setting involving physical activity and varying temperatures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Certificate from college or technical school
- At least one year prior experience operating a yard tractor and/or tractor/trailer combination
- Class A Driver's License
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to bend, crouch, climb, twist, and balance
- Ability to read labels
- Ability to safely operate equipment
- Ability to wear appropriate PPE, such as safety shoes, gloves, vests, and eye and/or hearing protection
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Ability to report hazards promptly
- Regular, punctual attendance
- Compliance with company safety policies
- Ability to work overtime or variable shifts
