Job Summary
Move, store, and maintain lumber and building materials while providing prompt customer service and filling orders. Cut stock to size using a stationary power saw, record actions on a cut sheet, and verify material type, quantity, and size against invoices. Advise the Yard Forman of low stock items and prepare Return Material Authorization forms for returned goods. Assist with loading delivery vehicles, off-loading at job sites, and stacking lumber neatly and safely. Keep assigned storage areas tidy, clear debris, and perform mowing, weed whacking, and snow removal tasks. Handle materials safely to avoid injury or damage, report equipment issues, and proactively find tasks during idle times. Forklift training and demonstrated competency are required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
- twelve months related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to read and comprehend correspondence and memos
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, associates, and vendors
- Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardizations exist
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Forklift training
