Writers & Journalists Intern/Volunteer
Job Summary
Unpaid internship/volunteer Journalist role based in Chicago (Felix Magazine) focusing on developing written materials for Felix Magazine and internal communications. Responsibilities include reporting and writing stories for publication, reviewing copy for grammar and punctuation, building contacts, conducting interviews, investigating topics related to the organization's interests, attending conferences, collaborating with other departments, determining emphasis/length/format, and uploading copy to the organization’s website. Candidate should demonstrate a passion for women’s economic opportunities, strong English skills, ability to meet deadlines, and the capacity to work in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. Requires student status (full or part-time) with coursework credit or a recent college graduate with 1+ year of journalism experience, and the ability to commit to 2-3 days per week for 3 months.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a full or part-time student and working toward a degree
- Must be eligible to receive school credit and commit to 2-3 days a week for 3 months or a college graduate with 1+ years experience in field of Journalism
- Excellent command of the English language
- Proven ability to work to stringent deadlines
- Ability to work as part of a team or autonomously
- Ability to work in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment with competing deadlines and priorities
- Integrity, honesty, openness and a willingness to operate as a team player
- Must have solid understanding of interview skills
- Must consistently exhibit sharp design skills
- Must be highly experienced in editing & copy writing
