Job Summary
Conduct pre-season meetings with athletes and parents to issue eligibility forms and explain VHSL, NCAA, and letter requirements. Organize daily practice schedules, teach appropriate skills and techniques, and establish a strength and conditioning program. Survey field and weather conditions for hazards, provide or delegate emergency care for injuries, and notify parents. Hold team meetings stressing sportsmanship, counsel students academically, and facilitate tutoring for those struggling. Monitor grades and absences, maintain equipment inventories, and secure facilities after use. Cooperate with media, booster clubs, and athletic directors while representing the school professionally. Hold current CPR/First Aid and VHSL coaching certificates. Maintain pre-season conditioning and attend professional in-service clinics.
Required Qualifications
- Hold a current certificate in CPR/First Aid
- Hold a VHSL Coaches education certificate
- Represent the school by being dressed appropriately and displaying professional behavior at all times
- Maintain pre-season conditioning to designated times allowed for each sport
- Teach appropriate skills/techniques within the particular sport
- Establish and monitor strength and conditioning program
- Survey field conditions for potential hazards
- Monitor weather conditions
- Establish communication with team physician, certified athletic trainer, and athletic director

- Demonstrate enthusiasm for sport and coaching responsibilities
- Promote a positive relationship between school, parents and booster clubs by attending parent meetings, awards banquets and other activities promoting interscholastic athletics
