Job Summary
Obtain and document vital signs, perform 12-lead EKGs and bedside blood sugar testing, and provide superficial wound care, oral suctioning, and splint application. Execute sterile tray preparation, dressing applications, and phlebotomy while operating cardiac monitors to recognize arrhythmias. Transport patients and medications, manage telesitter carts including connectivity troubleshooting, and monitor patients in restraint or seclusion. Maintain patient care areas and equipment, instruct patients on safe ambulation techniques, and notify nurses of abnormal findings. Requires BLS certification, proficiency with desktop computers, and manual vital signs skills. Full-time role at Wellstar Kennestone ED.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proficiency with desktop computer
- Demonstrate willingness to be a team-player and a self-starter
- Proficiency obtaining vital signs using manual processes
- Must understand and practice aseptic technique when required: sterile tray preparation, dressing applications and all phlebotomy
- Must be able to operate and observe cardiac monitors to ensure recognition of arrhythmias
- Requires knowledge of all specialty instruments and trays, including trauma resuscitation equipment and set-up, ENT trays, special procedure trays
- Must be able to transport patients, unit supplies, equipment, and patient medications
- Must assure patient care area is appropriately stocked with supplies
- Must monitor patients in restraint/seclusion
- Must document observations
- Must recognize cardiac rhythms and communicate findings to registered professional as appropriate
- Must provide accurate patient information for each monitor in use
- Must be responsible for cleaning and maintaining monitors and pumps in monitor room
- Must comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct
