Job Summary
The Withdrawal Management Nurse Practitioner is responsible for conducting comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments and providing timely clinical stabilization for individuals with acute substance use and withdrawal symptoms. This role includes prescribing and managing medications such as Buprenorphine and Methadone, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team on treatment plans, and providing patient education on substance use disorders and recovery support. Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in advanced practice nursing and be certified as a PMHNP with at least one year of relevant experience in psychiatric or addiction medicine.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in advanced practice nursing.
- Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
- Board certification as a PMHNP-BC.
- Active, unrestricted Advanced Practice Registered Nursing license with MN Board of Nursing.
- Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Minnesota.
- Active DEA registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances, including medications used in withdrawal management and addiction treatment.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in psychiatric, addiction medicine or withdrawal management settings.
- Experience assessing and managing acute substance withdrawal and co-occurring psychiatric or medical conditions.
- Demonstrated skills in the acute management of patients.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills in psychiatric and addiction medicine.
- Knowledge and experience with pharmacologic management of withdrawal symptoms and medication-assisted treatment.
- Ability to respond effectively to urgent clinical situations and stabilize patients in acute distress.
- At least 1 year of freedom from problematic substances.
Desired Qualifications
- Background in primary care nursing such as Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) preferred.
- Familiarity with harm reduction principles and trauma-informed care approaches.
- DEA DATA waiver (or eligibility) to prescribe buprenorphine.
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to meet specific provider qualifications and scope of practice outlined in Minnesota Statutes 245I.04.
- Must pass a DHS background study as required under MN Statutes, Chapter 245C and 245G.
