Job Summary
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and/or the Program Specialist I or II, the Program Coordinator I assists in hiring, program planning and overseeing aquatic programs to meet YMCA goals and policies. Responsibilities include supervising programs to improve quality, enrollment and retention, staying current with field trends, fostering a small community atmosphere among members, overseeing new programs, staff training, and handling brochure and marketing requests. Requires the ability to swim (swim test), maintains or pursues certifications (HCP, First Aid, Lifeguard; YMCA Swim Lessons/Water Fitness Instructor), and maintains positive relationships with staff, parents, participants, and the public. Must be able to communicate effectively within and between communities and organizations and participate in required trainings within 60-90 days of employment.
Required Qualifications
- minimum 2 years of aquatic experience
- high school diploma preferred or equivalent
- current certifications in HCP, First Aid, Lifeguard and/or Water Fitness Instructor (obtain within 90 days of employment)
- ability to swim as determined by passing a swim test (stroke completion, tread water for 2 minutes)
- ability to interpret program objectives to members, participants and volunteers; provide communications within and between communities and organizations
- ability to obtain YMCA New Employee Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, Safety & Risk Management and other designated training within 60-90 days of employment
- demonstrated human motivational and relationship skills and supervisory skills
- ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, parents, participants, and the public
- team member mindset and alignment with YMCA core values
- ongoing pursuit of further education/training in aquatics
