Job Summary
Wind Turbine Technician role overseeing onsite operations, maintenance, repairs and replacement of wind plant equipment. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining turbine equipment and associated infrastructure (substation, collection, transmission systems), reading schematics, troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems (including variable pitch/speed controls), performing repairs per OEM manuals, performing preventive maintenance, ensuring safety and environmental compliance, collecting data and generating reports, and supporting retrofits and design modifications. Role requires data submission, QA/QC tasks, on-call participation, and potential travel to other sites (approximately 10-15%). Requires upper-level hands-on maintenance skills, ability to climb towers up to 100 meters, ability to lift 60–100 pounds, and valid driver’s license. Preferred candidates have experience in wind/solar plant operations, high-voltage switching, and related electrical/mechanical aptitude, and residency in or near the greater local area.
Required Qualifications
- One year college or technical school certificate; or 12 months of related experience or wind industry training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Familiarity with maintenance and electronic testing equipment (voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, megohmmeters, infrared testers, hydraulic torque equipment, alignment and various hand and power tools)
- Advanced computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, management and reporting systems, including computerized diagnostic and troubleshooting tools)
- Ability to climb towers up to 100 meters daily to perform maintenance in the nacelle and hub
- Ability to frequently lift items weighing up to 60 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds
- Ability to work with electrical wires and differentiate color coded wires
- Ability to interpret and follow a variety of written, oral, diagram, or schedule form instructions
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization
- Knowledge of heavy equipment with crane and rigging requirements
- Demonstrated teamwork, initiative and positive attitude
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Weight must not exceed 285lbs excluding equipment/gear worn when performing job tasks
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in power plant operations and maintenance; experience with wind and solar plant construction, operation, and maintenance; experience in wind turbine and solar power converters and inverters; experience in high voltage switching
- Related experiences in fields requiring strong electrical and mechanical aptitude
- Qualified candidates living in or near the greater local area
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work overtime on holidays, weekends, and on short notice; willing to travel to other sites (approximately 10-15% travel); ability to work in adverse weather conditions
