Wind Major Component Technician II- Travel (Various Locations)

Job Summary
Execute large corrective maintenance and major component replacements on wind turbine generators, including gearboxes, generators, and blades, while performing precision mechanical work like torquing and alignment. Conduct advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, operate at heights exceeding 300 feet with full fall protection, and apply rigging principles to direct crane movements for safe lifting operations. Travel extensively across the fleet with minimal advance notice, working weekend, night, and extended hours in high-stress environments driven by weather and wind-window constraints. Provide safety oversight to personnel and enforce safety culture protocols.
Required Qualifications
- High School Grad / GED
- 1.5+ years in a technical field, OR completion of a technical certificate/degree program
- Valid Driver's License (NON CDL)
- Ability to climb a wind turbine up to 300 feet
- Post-Offer Functional Capacity Eval
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with demonstrated experience in industrial or heavy equipment maintenance
- Proven experience performing complex maintenance or repairs in challenging environments
- Working knowledge of rigging practices, load dynamics, and hand signals or radio communication for crane operations
- Ability to safely work at extreme heights (300+ feet) and in varying weather conditions
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and effective in stressful, fast-paced situations with tight time constraints
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with crane operators, supervisors, and team members
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively on a fleet-wide basis
- Availability for weekend, night, and extended-hour work as required
- Ability to meet all physical demands of the role, including climbing, lifting, and working in confined spaces
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience with major component replacements on wind turbines
- Crane and heavy lift support experience in wind, industrial, or construction environments
- Formal training or certification in rigging, lifting operations, or technical wind systems
- Experience serving in a safety leadership or mentoring role
- Associate's Degree
