Job Summary
Wildlife Management Specialist in the Iowa DNR Prairie Resource Unit focusing on assisting with the production of local ecotype native prairie grasses and wildflowers, seed propagation and harvest, and performing general wildlife management across state wildlife areas. Responsibilities include leading volunteers and staff, training inmate workers, conducting wetland and prairie management, native prairie seeding and food plot development, prescribed fire implementation, equipment operation (tractor, chainsaws, seed cleaning equipment), greenhouse seed propagation, and field maintenance under supervision with possible overnight travel. Strong plant identification skills, organization, and communication skills are required; lead groups and work independently under general program guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- College graduate with a degree in wildlife biology, animal ecology, or another closely related natural resource field.
