Job Summary

Wildlife Health Technician supports Missouri's CWD surveillance by engaging with meat processors and taxidermists within their region, enrolling CWD Cooperators, training them on collecting retropharyngeal lymph nodes, ensuring correct data form completion, and monitoring contractual obligations. The role involves extensive regional travel (averaging at least 20 hours of driving weekly from November to March), organizing/submitting biological samples to the Wildlife Health Laboratory (in person or by mail), entering/correcting/validating data in state applications, representing the department professionally in interactions, emailing/telephoning/in-person discussions with Cooperators and MDC staff, and assisting with other disease surveillance tasks including data entry, sample collection, and necropsies. Opportunities for statewide surveillance of other diseases may arise. Ancillary duties as assigned. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology, Natural Resources, Biological Sciences, or related field; valid driver’s license; knowledge of Microsoft Office; ability to communicate clearly; capacity to work independently; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; and effective time management. Work environment includes outdoor conditions, office settings, vehicles, necropsy/laboratory environments, occasional overnight travel, and physical tasks such as lifting up to 75 pounds. Exemption status: Nonexempt. Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.; drug screen required after offer. The Department reserves the right to revise duties as needed.
