Job Summary
Wildlife Health Technician supports Missouri Department of Conservation's CWD surveillance by engaging with meat processors and taxidermists (CWD Cooperators) within the designated region. Responsibilities include enrolling cooperators, training on retropharyngeal lymph node collection, ensuring complete data forms and adherence to contractual obligations, and potential work on statewide disease surveillance. Extensive regional travel (average ≥20 hours/week Nov-Mar) to visit cooperators, collect samples (region totals 500–1400), and deliver supplies; organize/submit biological samples to the Wildlife Health Laboratory (in person or by mail); enter, correct, and validate CWD data in state applications; professional representation of the department; communicate with cooperators and MDC staff via email, phone, and in-person; assist with other disease surveillance tasks as needed; occasional overnight travel; physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds; work in outdoor and laboratory environments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Natural Resources, Biological Sciences, or related field
- Valid driver’s license
