Job Summary
Wildlife Health Technician plays a crucial role in supporting MDC chronic wasting disease surveillance by engaging with meat processors and taxidermists (CWD Cooperators) within their designated region. Responsibilities include enrolling Cooperators, training on collection of retropharyngeal lymph nodes, checking data forms, and ensuring contractual adherence; extensive regional travel (average ~20+ hours/week November–March) to visit Cooperators, collect samples, and deliver supplies; organizing/submitting biological samples to the Wildlife Health Laboratory; entering, correcting, and validating CWD data in the state application; representing the department professionally; communicating via email/phone/in-person; assisting with other disease surveillance tasks including data entry, sample collection, and necropsies; occasional ancillary duties; required education and skills include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, valid driver’s license, strong communication, independent work capability, and proficiency with MS Office.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Natural Resources, Biological Sciences, or related field
- Must maintain a valid, current driver’s license
- Previous experience in wildlife health and biological sample collection is desired
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs
