Job Summary
Establish and maintain remote camera arrays across the San Andres Mountains and Fort Bliss, navigating rugged terrain using UTVs, 4WD vehicles, hiking, and GPS to ensure equipment operability, battery levels, and SD card replacement. Manage data entry and classification by compiling survey results, performing quality control checks, and measuring distances between animals in wildlife images. Retrieve wildlife GPS collars and organize associated data under the guidance of FWS staff. Work Monday through Friday with irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, in a hot, arid desert environment.
Required Qualifications
- Citizen of the United States
- Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
- Valid driver's license
- Insurable driving record
- Age 21 or older to drive
- Willing to undergo and must pass the required criminal history checks
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
- Willingness to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations, and mid-term evaluations for longer terms
- Agreement not to participate in any prohibited activities as listed in the Member Service Agreement

- Willingness to work irregular hours (e.g., holidays, weekends, early and late mornings/evenings)
- Ability to hike long distances (10 miles) over rough terrain
- Ability to camp overnight under field conditions
- Close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision
- Ability to focus
- Ability to move up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to move up to 45 pounds
- Comfortable with extreme heat or cold
- Comfortable with rocky terrain
- Comfortable with biting insects
- Comfortable with dangerous wildlife such as venomous animals
- Strict adherence to FWS and ACE equipment training, certification and safety protocols
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when required
- Willingness to undergo domestic travel
Desired Qualifications
- Hold or be pursuing a minimum of a bachelor's degree
- Relevant experience in wildlife ecology and management
- Experience operating 4WD vehicles
- Experience operating UTVs
- Experience trailering
- Strong background in wildlife biology such as working with wildlife trail cameras
- Experience working in the backcountry
