Job Summary
Organize, direct, and supervise Wildcat Rec Center facility operations, including pool management, event coordination, and building access for weekend shifts. On weekdays, coordinate department communication, oversee custodial staff, and develop training programs for student employees while performing hands-on maintenance and chemical processing duties. Ensure compliance with safety protocols, conduct regular facility walk-throughs, and resolve customer conflicts professionally. Manage special events, prepare reports, and act as backup for the Night & Weekend Operations Manager. Requires a valid driver's license, first aid/CPR certification, and Aquatic Facility Operator certification. Reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities and Services.
Required Qualifications
- Three (3) years of work experience in a related field such as facility management, event management or maintenance and housekeeping
- One (1) year of experience in a lead or supervisory position
- Experience in a related field in a university/college environment, highly desirable
- Possession of a valid and current California driver's license with an acceptable driving record for insurance purposes
- Ability to obtain first aid/CPR/AED card within two months of hire
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Aquatic Facility Operator/Certified Pool Operator (CPO/AFO) certification
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of building and equipment maintenance, including electric, plumbing, and HVAC
- Knowledge of handling and storage of hazardous materials, including the proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals
- Knowledge of principles of project planning and estimating time, materials, and staff needs
- Knowledge of use of custodial and housekeeping equipment
- Knowledge of principles of supervision, employee development, and performance evaluation
- Knowledge of work scheduling
- Knowledge of safe work standards and practices
- Knowledge of working knowledge of basic pool function and maintenance
- Ability to effectively organize and supervise the WREC building, equipment and recreation activities
- Ability to hire, train and supervise staff
- Ability to assist in the planning and coordination of building maintenance, custodial or room reservation projects, accurately estimating time, equipment, and staff requirements
- Ability to use specialized software systems including room reservation and security systems and maintenance software
- Ability to maintain and update custodial and room reservation records
- Ability to effectively follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work productively without close supervision
- Ability to work in a cooperative and professional manner to communicate effectively with a diverse population of staff, students and others
- Ability to work effectively and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse population of staff, students and others
- Ability to work well under pressure: meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines
- Must be able to professionally handle and resolve interpersonal conflicts existing between customers in a swift, fair and decisive manner
