Job Summary
Review participant assignments, waivers, and medical conditions before the trip; deliver pre-trip safety briefings and kayak orientation. Manage trip dynamics, safety, and communications while coordinating with SBR leadership and the National Park Service for emergency evacuations. Interpret the natural and cultural history of the New River Gorge and complete post-trip reporting with the West Virginia DNR. Model the Scout Oath and Law, maintain a clean and safe work area, and perform additional duties assigned by leadership. Requires a minimum age of 20, commercial river guide experience, and confidence as a swimmer. Candidates must be comfortable with five days of paddling and camping in a remote setting without running water or electricity.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 20+
- Documentation & references proving you have worked as a commercial river guide
- Confident swimmer
- Comfortable with 5 days paddling/camping in remote setting without running water/electricity
- Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
- Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication
- Ability to stand, walk, swim, and paddle up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 70 pounds
- Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
