Job Summary
Conduct gear shakedown and inventory with guests, provide whitewater kayaking instruction, and ensure rafter safety while delivering medical care as needed. Pack and load food and equipment into trucks and boats, and potentially act as a Sweep boater with river rescue skills and rigging competence. Interpret the natural and cultural history of the New River Gorge and participate in evening programming. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while modeling the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions. Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record and adhere to SBR staff handbook policies. Work five to six days on a trek in a remote setting without running water or electricity, requiring a confident swimmer and ability to paddle up to eight hours daily.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18+
- Confident swimmer
- Comfortable with 5 days paddling/camping in remote setting without running water/electricity
- Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
- Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication
- Ability to stand, walk, swim, and paddle up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
- Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
