Job Summary
Operate one whisker machine while adjusting dies, feed mechanisms, and alignments to meet production objectives. Troubleshoot equipment issues, replace worn parts, and escalate major problems to the Maintenance Team. Perform product changes, load coils using a forklift, unload whiskers, bundle them, and package into boxes. Weigh, move, and organize boxes using carts and forklifts, then label, package, and palletize for storage and shipping. Maintain a clean environment, report safety issues, and ensure all quality and production standards are met while minimizing scrap and downtime. Complete two or more tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Operating one whisker machine with ability to operate either machine at one time
- Adjusting dies, feed mechanisms, alignments, and all other machine parameters to achieve objectives
- Troubleshooting machine problems and replacing worn or broken machine parts as required
- Escalating major equipment issues to Maintenance Team
- Performing product changes when and where needed
- Loading coils of flat steel on the turntables using a forklift
- Unloading whiskers from the machine, bundling them and packaging into boxes
- Weighing, moving, and organizing boxes of whiskers using carts and forklifts
- Meeting all quality and production standards, minimizing scrap and downtime
- Labeling, packaging, and palletizing boxes of whiskers for storage, inventory, and shipping
- Performing all job functions in a safe manner, follow and enforce all policies and procedures
- Leading housekeeping efforts and always maintaining a clean and safe work environment
- Identifying and immediately communicating personnel and safety issues to the Shift Supervisor and assisting with investigations and resolutions of the issues if needed
- Communicating and working with Material Handlers to ensure an appropriate quantity and quality of raw materials is delivered to the Whisker Department as needed
- Accurate and complete reporting of production and quality data both manually and in computer systems
- Reporting any continuous improvement opportunities to the Shift Supervisor
- Moving materials as needed using forklifts or overhead cranes
- Must be able to handle self in a professional manner with co-workers and supervisors
- Ability to take responsibility for self and team
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Must be able to continually bend, stoop, crouch, reach above shoulder, use arms, wrists, grasp and squeeze with hands, access constricted spaces, and lift and carry up to 75 lbs
- Must be able to withstand occasional exposure to dusty or dirty ambient conditions
- Must be able to withstand occasional exposure to hot or cold ambient conditions
- Must be able to withstand occasional exposure to mild chemical irritants
- Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment
- Must have the ability to complete two or more tasks simultaneously

- Excellent safety and attendance record
- Ability to work 12 hour rotating day and night shifts, and report on time for scheduled shifts and follow company attendance policies
- Possesses strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Possesses basic knowledge in math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages
- Possesses basic computer skills
- Possesses exceptional problem-solving skills
- Understands production rates and production schedules
- Ability to balance and achieve results in the areas of Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost Reduction
- Self-motivated and able to work with little or no supervision and maintain a working and up-to-date knowledge of products and services
