Job Summary
Perform maintenance, repair, inspection, test, overhaul, reconditioning, restructuring, machining, and rebuilding of locomotives, components, and systems in the shop or field. Execute all federal inspections and resulting repairs, including sanding, fueling, light repair, and supplying locomotives within the Brewster area and beyond. Conduct hostler work for running and switching locomotives, alongside electrical, mechanical, machine, sheet metal, and blacksmith tasks. Work safely in all weather conditions, confined spaces, and at elevated heights, lifting up to 85 pounds regularly. Complete required training and apprenticeship under company-paid on-the-job programs while adhering to safety rules and irregular hours.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be able to work any shift, any day of the week
- Must be able to lift 85 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, balance, climb, twist, work overhead, reach, walk on uneven surfaces, and stand on hard surfaces for long periods
- Must be able to work safely in compliance with all safety and operating rules
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions
- Must be able to work in confined spaces and at or above elevated heights
- Must be able to complete required training/apprenticeship
- Must be able to work in the shop and outdoors
- Must be able to work irregular hours including overtime
- Must be able to work any shift required
- Must be able to complete apprenticeship program in accordance with the provisions of the labor agreement
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background verification, physical, and drug/alcohol screen
- Must be able to comply with a drug-free workplace policy and zero tolerance policy
- Must be able to undergo pre-employment and frequent drug and alcohol testing
