Job Summary
Assist veterinarians during exams and surgeries while providing safe, low-stress animal restraint and preparing surgical patients for recovery. Administer treatments, fill medications as directed, draw blood, and assist with in-house or external lab testing. Monitor patient recovery, administer euthanasia as required, and provide friendly service to the public by explaining medical conditions, procedures, risks, and aftercare. Schedule appointments, manage intake and discharge processes, and maintain accurate medical records and financial documentation using shelter and scheduling software. Restock supplies, maintain a clean clinical environment following PPE and sanitation protocols, and collaborate with staff and volunteers to support safe workplace practices.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of customer service experience
- Ability to lift 25–40+ pounds
- Ability to remain on feet for extended periods
- Weekend and evening availability
- Comfort working around animals
- Comfort working around allergens
- Comfort working around cleaning chemicals
- Compassionate and calm under pressure
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Confident handling animals of varying temperaments
- Comfortable discussing medical information with clients
- Committed to humane treatment
- Committed to socially conscious sheltering
- Authorization to authorize HSPPR and ProScreening to conduct a background check
- Waiver of claims regarding drug testing and background checks
