Job Summary
Design and lead resident exercise classes and individualized training consultations to safely meet residents' physical objectives, incorporating modifications for varying ability levels. Engage residents to maintain ongoing participation through engaging instruction, music selection, and proper equipment. Monitor safety and respond to distress during exercise, assess residents’ physical status via medical and therapy records, and orient team members in exercise techniques to enable independent participation. Demonstrate ability to work independently or as part of a team, manage multiple projects under moderate pressure, and adapt to changing priorities. Utilize basic computer skills and fitness-tracking software; communicate effectively with residents, leadership, vendors, providers, and visitors; and tailor exercise prescriptions to individual goals. Require 1 year of relevant experience, a bachelor’s degree in a related health field, and CPR and certification in personal/group training (NCCA preferred). The role may include responsibilities such as resident fitness testing, orientation programs, wellness education events, and coordinating with residents on goal development and program adjustments. Duties may evolve with the needs of the wellness program.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related health field (or equivalent combination of education/experience)
- Personal Trainer or Group Training certification (NCCA accreditation preferred)
- CPR certification
- Minimum of 1 year experience as a personal trainer, exercise/health & fitness instructor, or recreational therapist
- Experience working with older adults or training in working with older adults preferred
