Welding Training Specialist

Job Summary

Execute welding training programs, administer qualification testing per AWS standards, and conduct process audits to correct deficiencies. Coach new and existing operators on GMAW, FCAW, SAW, and cutting techniques while maintaining training records and identifying improvement opportunities. Coordinate with operations, quality, and engineering teams to ensure code compliance and implement corrective actions for root cause analysis. Order materials and PPE, recognize safety hazards, and lead by example in industrial shop and classroom settings. Travel up to 20% within the United States.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum five years of experience working in a weld manufacturing environment
  • A working knowledge with each of the following welding processes: Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Metal Cored Arc Welding (GMAW-C), Pulsed Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW-P), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW-G), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
  • Knowledge of oxyfuel and plasma cutting operations
  • The ability to obtain Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and Certified Welding Educator (CWE) accreditations
  • A working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (Ex: AWS D1.1)
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Access)
  • Knowledge and proficiency of navigating and understanding Valmont's quality system and standards
  • A commitment to supplying a safe working environment for trainees and operators
  • Must be able to recognize safety hazards and provide a safe working environment to the trainees
  • The candidate must be capable of regulating their emotions, and deescalating conflict
  • The candidate must have the patience to educate weld trainees with little to no prior welding experience
  • Must wear all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must follow applicable procedures
  • Travels up to 20% of the time, within the United States

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Welding Technology
  • Certified Welding Inspector accreditation (CWI) from The American Welding Society (AWS)
  • Certified Welding Educator accreditation (CWE) from The American Welding Society (AWS)
  • Certified Associate Welding Inspector accreditation (CAWI) from The American Welding Society (AWS)
