Welding Robot Technician

Job Summary

Oversee nuclear fabrication production at the Darlington New Nuclear Project by contributing technical input to refine welding activities and investigating technology improvements. Monitor ongoing production status, communicate updates, and act as a liaison between production teams and technical experts. Troubleshoot robotic system operational issues, manage spare parts inventory, and coordinate with quality inspectors for robotic inspection activities. Provide technical direction to production staff, generate project status reports, and assist in budget and forecast management. Train production staff on various welding processes and equipment while maintaining continuous safety and quality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • College and/or University degree in Engineering or related field related to robotics, material handling, and welding
  • Minimum 4 years of practical hands on robotic programming
  • Must possess valid G driver's license and have access to a vehicle
  • Knowledge of ASME, CWB or AWS welding codes
  • Strong background experience programming software systems for robotic, automated and/or mechanized automation/welding systems
  • Knowledgeable with the programming and operation of Fanuc welding systems
  • Experience with production GMAW welding
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing plant design and process engineering principles (cycle times, takt times etc)
  • Strong understanding of value added and non value added operations within a manufacturing facility
  • Intermediate to expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word
  • Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees
  • Detail oriented
  • Must have a positive attitude to develop and test new solutions to solve a variety of technical welding issues
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Results oriented, takes ownership of tasks assigned
  • Practices a strong safety culture
  • Willingness to want to continuously learn, try new approaches, experiment with new technologies and push the envelope related to welding, manufacturing, machinery and tooling development

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ASME, CWB or AWS welding codes is an asset
  • Exposure to heavy welding machinery and tooling design and development is an asset
  • A passion for welding is an asset, specifically heavy multipass welding
  • Have a willingness to mentor and share knowledge
  • The ability to think 'out of the box' is an asset
  • Hands on experience with manufacturing tools and welding is an asset
  • Familiar with welding principles is preferred. (Basics of arc welding, types of welding etc.)
  • Familiar with robotics or comparable semi-automated and mechanized machinery is an asset
